An original, quirky, loose watercolour illustration of the amazing war pigeon G. I. Joe in WW2.

G.I. Joe was dispatched to carry a message and arrived in the air base just in time to avoid the Allied air force from bombing their own men. G.I. Joe flew 32kms in an impressive 20 minutes, just as the planes were preparing to take off for the target. Over 100 men were saved.

G.I. Joe was awarded the PDSA Dickin Medal for gallantry with "the most outstanding flight made by a United States Army homing pigeon in World War II". He was also later awarded the Animals in War & Peace Medal of Bravery :)

This little pigeon portrait would make a wonderful, one of a kind gift for any pigeon lover; or a lovely, unique piece or yourself :)

Painted on 14.5 / 15cm x 10.5cm 300gsm 100% cotton hot pressed archival paper. (size varies slightly being a hand cut item)
